A future Pixel update may significantly improve an underused feature.

A feature used often but not thought about much could see be improved on Pixel handsets.
On iPhones with the Dynamic Island, users can adjust the flashlight's intensity by interacting with the Dynamic Island box while the flashlight is on. Sliding a finger vertically upward increases the light, while sliding down reduces it. A horizontal drag adjusts the beam's focus from narrow to wide.
Currently, Pixel users need a third-party application to manage flashlight brightness. One method involves installing the Google Magnifying app from the Play Store. Opening the app and tapping the flashlight icon reveals a vertical slider to double the flashlight's intensity.
However, a future software update may introduce native flashlight controls. Code discovered in Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 hinted at a slider to manage the flashlight beam's strength, similar to the Quick Settings brightness slider.
The latest Android Canary release showcases a Flashlight Strength control resembling the iPhone's Dynamic Island. It features a flashlight illustration inside a box; dragging a slider upward activates the flashlight and increases brightness, represented by a widening arc of light. Sliding down dims the light, narrowing the arc.
This feature might debut with the March 2026 Pixel Feature Drop, coinciding with the Android 16 Beta.
While not the most critical addition, the new flashlight control demonstrates Google's dedication to improving user experience on Pixel phones. Frequent flashlight users may find this addition helpful. For now, the Google Magnifying app workaround remains an option.
