A Galaxy S26 Ultra upgrade may not offer enough new features to justify the cost for current high-end phone users.

Most Galaxy S25 Ultra owners might not feel the need to buy the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Galaxy S26 Ultra prototype images have appeared. A recent survey indicates that Samsung might find it challenging to persuade Galaxy S25 Ultra users to upgrade to the Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Minor Spec Bumps Anticipated
According to industry insider Ice Universe, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to have only a few spec improvements over the Galaxy S25 Ultra, including the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, quicker 60W charging, a slimmer 7.9mm design, and a somewhat lighter weight of 214 grams.
In a survey, readers were asked if they would consider buying the Galaxy S26 Ultra if they already owned the S25 Ultra. Of the 1,090 responses, 76% (824) felt there would not be sufficient justification to upgrade.
14% (150) of those polled stated they would only upgrade if the price stayed the same.
Only 10% (116) of the respondents indicated they would upgrade from the Galaxy S25 Ultra, even if the price increased.
Samsung May Prioritize Practical Enhancements
The Galaxy S25 Ultra is a top-tier Android device, which may be why Samsung believes it can simply make minor improvements to the phone. Furthermore, the Galaxy S26 Ultra may include enhancements that improve the user experience, even if the specifications do not reflect this.
For example, the device is rumored to use 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X RAM technology, which should improve response times and camera performance.
Similarly, while the battery capacity is expected to remain constant, the utilization of M14 display material may extend battery life.
Ultimately, a phone's overall performance is more important than its specs. If it performs well on a daily basis, it may be appealing enough for many flagship owners to switch.
Is It That Simple?
Possibly not. Given that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will likely remain functional for years and that a price increase is probable, Samsung will need to provide compelling reasons for users to upgrade.
Perhaps Samsung has additional features in development that will persuade Galaxy S25 Ultra owners that the Galaxy S26 Ultra is more than just a slightly enhanced version of their current device.
