A major iPhone display upgrade is expected in 2027, following Apple's typical five-year pattern.

The iPhone 20 Pro and Pro Max could feature a pristine display without any cutouts.
Samsung previously mocked iPhone users in its Galaxy advertisements by depicting a family who taped notches on their foreheads to mimic the iPhone's design. This was intended to ridicule both the notch and iPhone enthusiasts.
In 2022, Apple introduced the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. A tech leaker suggests the company plans to integrate an under-screen front camera in 2027, continuing a possible five-year pattern of changes.
Reportedly, Apple will first move Face ID under the display with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in 2026. This would eliminate the Dynamic Island, replaced by a punch-hole camera. The front-facing camera would then be placed under the display in 2027, potentially giving iPhones a screen without any interruptions.
To commemorate the iPhone's 20th anniversary (released June 29, 2007), Apple may call the 2027 models the iPhone 20, skipping the iPhone 19.
The iPhone 20 Pro and Pro Max could feature a seamless glass display, aligning with rumors of a design without cutouts, buttons, ports, or bezels. This concept, similar to what Steve Jobs and Jony Ive envisioned for the original iPhone, was technologically impossible in 2007 but may be feasible by 2027.
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reported in May that Apple was developing this design for the 2027 premium iPhones. While the original iPhone needed a port for data transfer and charging, MagSafe accessories now handle charging wirelessly. AirDrop facilitates data transfers, and a faster MagSafe version could be in development.
Physical buttons could be replaced with virtual, on-screen controls. This design might last until 2032 with the iPhone 25 Pro models. However, the port-free design would require consumers to purchase new MagSafe accessories.
The transition to the new design could involve initial expenses, but Apple anticipates increased revenue from its ecosystem as users purchase MagSafe accessories for the updated iPhones in 2027.
