A new iOS beta aims to fix the issue of accidental camera launches on iPhones.

Apple is adding various customization options in the latest iOS 26.1 beta.
A new option to disable the "swipe to open camera" feature on the lock screen has been included in iOS 26.1 beta 4, as announced on X by user @aaronp613.
Apple is providing more options to customize the iOS 26 lock screen with this addition. Many users who have unintentionally activated the gesture will likely find the option to disable it appealing.
This modification from Apple, which is known for restricting user options, has been a long time coming. The swipe gesture was the primary method for accessing the camera from the lock screen before the iPhone X, when a dedicated camera button was introduced.
Apple later added a Camera Control button on the iPhone 16, giving users three ways to launch the camera. Although iOS 18 brought lock screen button customization, the swipe gesture remained fixed.
The Camera Control button remained on the iPhone 17, maintaining this overlap. The new setting offers users the choice of having just one method to open the camera from the lock screen, or continuing to use all three.
While appreciating the increased customization, some users may find it difficult to stop using the swipe gesture. The long-ingrained muscle memory may be hard to overcome, even with the new option available.
