A new report indicates Samsung's foldable phone market share is facing increasing competition from Motorola and Google.

The Western Europe foldable smartphone market is heating up even before Apple is expected to join the fight next year.
Motorola is gaining ground in the US and Western Europe. Interestingly, Google is also seeing more progress in Western Europe than in its home market.
The Motorola Razr 60 leads foldable sales in Western Europe for the first half of 2025. This success was unexpected, as previous years did not suggest this outcome. The budget-friendly Razr 60 has outsold Samsung's more expensive Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 models.
This outcome may provide insight for the top smartphone vendor regarding consumer preferences. The Razr 60 offers similar capabilities to the Z Flip 6 at a lower price, making it a preferred choice for many European consumers.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 may face similar challenges against the Razr 60. Additionally, the Z Flip 7 Fan Edition's pricing and marketing may not be effective enough to reverse Samsung's difficulties in Western Europe during the latter half of 2025.
While the Razr 60 performed well, Samsung remains the top foldable handset vendor in Western Europe. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold's success in the first half of 2025 is attributed to carrier partnerships, competitive pricing, and a design appealing to productivity-focused buyers, according to Counterpoint Research.
Despite these factors being relevant in the US, Google is struggling to compete with Samsung and Motorola. It is anticipated that Apple's entry into the foldable market will further reduce Google's domestic market share.
Apple's arrival is also expected to impact the foldable market in Western Europe next year, increasing overall sales but primarily affecting "slower movers or brands with narrow foldable lineups."
Although Honor does not fit these categories, its foldable devices are no longer among the top five in Western Europe. This is a shift from the first half of 2024 when the Magic V2 held the top position.
The Magic V3 may be considered less impressive compared to the Motorola Razr 60, Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, Razr 50, and Z Fold 6. This has transformed the market from a two-brand competition to a more competitive four-way race.
Samsung is still a strong contender. While the competition for the top three positions in the foldable vendor rankings is closer, Motorola is unlikely to overtake Samsung, given the presence of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7.
However, the second position is achievable for Motorola, following Honor's decline. If the Razr 70 series launches early next year, Motorola could potentially surpass Samsung to win the top spot in Western Europe during the first half of 2026.
