Acer's latest Chromebook is designed to be a versatile laptop and tablet replacement with a 17-hour battery life.

Acer's Chromebook Plus Spin 514 transforms into different modes while delivering marathon battery life.
MediaTek, Acer, and Google collaborated to equip the Chromebook Plus Spin 514 with advanced on-device AI using ChromeOS. The MediaTek Kompanio Ultra chipset provides efficient power for productivity, gaming, and streaming.
According to PD Rajput, Associate Vice President at MediaTek, the Arm Immortalis-G925 MC11 GPU improves graphics performance, delivering 37% better graphics and up to 30% greater power efficiency. It also provides a 36% boost for machine learning tasks.
While MediaTek may not be synonymous with top-tier performance, its specifications should handle everyday tasks. For demanding tasks, Acer offers an AMD Ryzen version. The device can run typical apps, but may struggle with high frame rates in games. 4K video playback is possible, but the device may get hot.
As a Chromebook Plus, it includes ChromeOS upgrades like smart tab grouping, AI-powered image editing, a dedicated Insert key for quick tools, and Lens built into the launcher.

Users also get 12 months of Google AI Pro for higher-tier Gemini access, NotebookLM, Flow, and 2 TB of Google storage.
The Spin 514 has a 360-degree hinge for laptop, tablet, tent, or stand modes. It is rated for 25,000 open/close cycles.
The device is MIL-STD 810H certified, featuring an aluminum chassis, Gorilla Glass, reinforced ports, and drop resistance up to 122 cm.
The 14-inch touchscreen offers WQXGA+ (2800x1800) or WUXGA (1920x1200) resolution in a 16:10 aspect ratio. It has slim bezels, an anti-fingerprint coating, and Gorilla Glass.
It supports USI 2.0 styluses (sold separately). The device weighs 1.36 kg and is 15.5 mm thick.
Connectivity features include:
Wi-Fi 7
Bluetooth 5.4
Dual USB-C ports
Dual USB-A ports
Additional features include an optional backlit keyboard and an OceanGlass touchpad made from recycled ocean plastic.
The Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 514 (CP514-5HN) will be available in October for $699.99 in the US and €699 in Europe, which is expensive for a Chromebook.
Comparable Windows laptops or Chromebooks with similar specs are available for less.
While the Acer can be a solid choice, those seeking high power should consider traditional laptops.
The "Plus" designation requires at least 8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, a modern chipset, a full HD display, and a 1080p webcam. It indicates a baseline standard, avoiding outdated Chromebooks.
