Amazon has launched new Echo Dot Max and Echo Studio smart speakers with advanced features.

With compact bodies, powerful sound, state-of-the-art chips under the hood, and Alexa+ experiences out the box, Amazon's newest smart speakers will probably top a lot of holiday shopping lists this year.

In preparation for a major fall sales event, the e-commerce giant is growing its already extensive line of in-house Echo devices.

If you appreciate the appearance and size of the affordable Echo Dot but desire greater power, you could compromise and choose a standard fourth-generation Echo. Alternatively, you can now pre-order the all-new Echo Dot Max.

This device is nearly as compact as the fifth-generation Echo Dot released in 2022, but it offers the same room-filling sound as the standard Echo. This is achieved with a two-way speaker system, featuring a high-excursion woofer for deep bass and a custom tweeter for clear high notes.

Compared to the latest Echo Dot, which typically costs $49.99, the Echo Dot Max reportedly triples the bass power, justifying its higher price of $99.99.

The $50 price increase accounts for both improved audio quality and enhanced Alexa+ functionality. The Echo Dot Max is designed to optimize the ambient AI experiences Amazon introduced earlier this year.

The Echo Dot Max will ship on October 29, providing immediate access to Alexa+ capabilities. It also includes a custom-designed AZ3 chip for improved conversation detection and more natural interactions with Alexa+.

The introduction of the Echo Dot Max appears to have led to the discontinuation of the standard Echo, which is no longer available from Amazon.

In contrast to the Dot Max, the Echo Studio is not entirely new, but a follow-up to the first-generation model released in 2019 as Amazon's largest and highest-quality Alexa speaker.

The second-generation Echo Studio is now the company's top-of-the-line speaker. It fits a high-excursion woofer and three full-range drivers into a body that is 40 percent smaller than the 2019 version.

Like its predecessor, the new Echo Studio features spatial audio and Dolby Atmos technology for surround sound, and it adopts a spherical design similar to the Echo Dot Max.

The 2025 Amazon Echo Studio supports all Alexa+ experiences and includes an AZ3 Pro processor for improved performance.

Available for pre-order today in Graphite and Glacier White, the upgraded Echo Studio is priced at $219.99 and will begin shipping on October 29.

While the smart speaker market has seen less activity from Apple and Google, Amazon continues to invest in these devices, a market that they helped create.
