Android's built-in scam protection feature is now available in the US.

Google expands its pilot for in-call scam protection for financial apps.
The warning's 30-second pause before continuing is crucial. Google states this "helps break the ‘spell’ of the scammer's social engineering, disrupting the false sense of urgency and panic commonly used to manipulate you into a scam.”
Previously Tested in the UK
Earlier this year, Google tested this safety feature in the UK. The company reported the test's success, stating it helped many users avoid potentially costly calls. Now, the feature is available to most major UK banks, with trials underway with financial apps in Brazil and India.
In the US, Google is testing the scam protection feature with apps like Cash App and banks like JPMorganChase. The new protection is compatible with Android 11 and later versions.
Hoping for Global Rollout
The prevalence of these scams is not exaggerated, and the issue extends beyond the test countries. Hopefully, these trials will succeed, and Google will offer this protection to more users globally. This expansion would ease concerns about older, less tech-savvy family members.
