Apple is expected to release touchscreen MacBooks to increase profits, which will likely result in higher prices for consumers.

Nobody needs a touchscreen on a laptop, except Apple’s financial results.
These days, trackpads on Windows are much better than they used to be. While Apple's trackpads are still great, many competitors have improved, so Windows laptops no longer feel inadequate. Because of this, I've hardly used the touchscreen on any laptop I've reviewed lately.
The exception is devices like Lenovo's Yoga, which can transform into something different than a regular laptop. When I hide the keyboard and use the "laptop" as a "tablet," I use the touchscreen just like on an iPad or Galaxy Tab. But that's a different kind of device, which is why the Surface Pro and iPad Pro make sense.
Apple's Goal: More Revenue
For years, Apple has tried to make the iPad a device for serious work, not just entertainment. This didn't happen because Apple limited the software, even though people wanted to use iPads for work. Apple was happy with iPad sales and worried that adding too many features from the MacBook would hurt those sales.
Now, iPad sales are down, and Mac sales are up. So, a touchscreen MacBook could increase laptop sales and probably won't hurt iPad sales much more. More importantly, Apple can charge more for touchscreen laptops.
Gurman says Apple has created a new hinge and screen that will keep the display steady when touched. This new hinge and screen tech will be a good reason to raise the price by at least a few hundred dollars. After all, it will be another Apple innovation promising a completely new user experience never before seen on an Apple laptop.
Hoping for Failure
I'm not against Apple trying new things. I wouldn't be shocked if a MacBook with a touchscreen is a success. People enjoy touchscreens, and macOS has been evolving to be more touch-friendly for years.
My concern is that Apple will do this to make more money and promote its ecosystem, not to improve the MacBook user experience. That's why I hope this idea fails, forcing Apple to come up with something truly innovative. I'm not sure if the company can still invent things, but there's always hope.
