Apple is moving to the next phase of iPhone Fold development, producing 100 units for engineering validation testing.

With the prototype stage behind it, the iPhone Fold moves on toward its expected 2026 launch.
Typically, manufacturers build around 100 units for testing to ensure the components function correctly, the electronic design is reliable, and the device can be mass-produced. According to a report, the elimination of the crease will be a major selling point for the first foldable iPhone, possibly named the iPhone Ultra, which is expected to debut next year.
Samsung manufactures the internal screen, but Apple designed the "panel structure, material processing, and lamination method," according to the report. As a result, owners will not see a crease on the internal screen. Foxconn has created a production line to manufacture the phone. Largan Precision is among the component suppliers expected to profit from a foldable iPhone.
As reports suggest the iPhone Fold will use hybrid glass/plastic lenses for the rear cameras, Largan could supply Apple with these components. Shin Zu Shing may provide the hinge, one of the most crucial and expensive parts of a foldable phone.
The first foldable iPhone is expected to attract significant attention. If Apple eliminates the crease, it will generate even more excitement, as many companies have dedicated engineers to solving this issue.
Those considering purchasing the iPhone Fold should be prepared to pay a premium, as a foldable with a creaseless screen will be expensive. An analyst at Fubon Research estimates the device will cost $2,399, based on supply chain data and Apple's profit margin targets. While it will likely be the most expensive iPhone, promotional materials will probably avoid this description.
Analysts have suggested the foldable smartphone market would remain limited until Apple releases a foldable iPhone. This event is nearing. Apple's success in the foldable market will depend on several factors, including production volume, exclusive features, and whether Apple releases it as a one-time product or an annual release.
Recently, Huawei led the foldable market in shipments during the second quarter. Motorola held second place with around 25% of the global market. Samsung, previously the leader, is now third, followed by Honor, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Google, OnePlus, and TCL.
The foldable market could see further changes next year with Apple's entry. Stay informed for more updates.
