Apple is reportedly testing a more affordable MacBook model.

Powered by an iPhone chipset, the cheapest MacBook ever will challenge Chromebooks.
The primary audience for the new laptop will be everyday users who mainly use their computers for typical tasks like using the internet and word processing. Currently, those wanting an Apple laptop must pay $999 for a base MacBook Air model or choose an iPad with extra accessories.
Change for the laptop market
Given the number of people who own an iPhone but are unwilling to pay the higher price for a MacBook, a more affordable Apple laptop should be very successful. Apple's current mobile processors are adequate to run a computer for web browsing and document creation, which is how most people use laptops. The only question is why it has taken Apple so long to develop a product like this.
