Apple is reportedly tweaking the iPad mini design to improve its durability.

A rumored water-resistant design may protect your next iPad mini from unexpected accidents.
A forthcoming iPad mini may feature a more durable design, according to a recent report.
Apple employs an adhesive and gasket to shield the iPhone's speaker holes from water damage. The changes to the iPad mini would be unique, demonstrating that Apple considers the design and internal arrangement of each device separately. If the internal structure is designed with water resistance in mind, repairs or maintenance may be somewhat simpler.
iPhones have an IP68 water-resistance rating, allowing them to be submerged in water up to six meters for half an hour. It is unknown what the iPad mini's IP rating will be, or if Apple will match the iPhone's rating, but even a lower rating would be a significant improvement over the current model.
The current iPad mini starts at $499, so the new version could start at about $599. While the price increase may seem significant, the added durability and display enhancements may be worthwhile for some customers.
