Apple is said to be reorganizing its health and WatchOS teams, changing roles and responsibilities.

Key teams like Health and watchOS are getting new leadership as part of a company-wide shift.
Apple is undergoing a significant internal reorganization as Jeff Williams, its longtime COO, prepares to retire. According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, divisions such as Health, Fitness+, and watchOS are being reassigned to different leaders, signaling the company's future focus.
Major changes are occurring at Apple Park as Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams, Tim Cook's second-in-command, approaches retirement. The corporation is redistributing his extensive duties. This is a restructuring of the management of some of Apple's most vital product categories, not just a simple promotion.
Mark Gurman's article details the specifics of this executive reshuffling.
The Health and Fitness+ teams will be combined and report to Eddy Cue, Apple's services head.
The watchOS team will be led by Craig Federighi, who is in charge of software engineering for iOS, macOS, and iPadOS.
John Ternus, head of hardware engineering and rumored successor to Tim Cook, will now be fully responsible for Apple Watch hardware choices.
These actions divide the large portfolio Williams has managed for years, distributing his non-operational responsibilities among Apple's top executives.
This restructuring is more than just corporate housekeeping; it expresses Apple's strategic path. Moving the Health and Fitness division under Eddy Cue puts it squarely within the services sector. Given that Fitness+ is already a subscription service and a paid Health+ service is expected next year, this alignment is logical. It demonstrates that Apple considers the future of its health activities to be subscription-based, similar to Apple Music and TV+.
Similarly, integrating watchOS under Craig Federighi simplifies software development. Federighi now oversees every major Apple operating system except tvOS, which should lead to greater integration across the ecosystem. This should make the experience between an iPhone, Mac, and Watch more fluid for consumers and developers. It prepares Apple for future growth.
This reorganization is logical, given Jeff Williams' vital position at Apple. The most telling aspect of this shift is putting Health squarely in the services division, which officially elevates services to the same level of importance as hardware and software, recognizing it as a key component of the organization.
