Apple might exceed expectations in 2027.

Apple stunned the world in 2007 with its smartphone. Will its smart glasses do the same thing?
Apple has long allowed other companies to produce smart glasses with varying features. Now, with Meta's Ray-Ban Display, could Apple be in a position similar to its position with smartphones in 2007? Apple didn't create the smartphone, but it made it user-friendly, creating a useful pocket computer and revolutionizing the world.
Could this happen again? Apple is shifting resources from the Vision Pro to develop smart glasses without a display, aiming for a 2026 unveiling and a 2027 release, coinciding with the iPhone's 20th anniversary. A 2027 iPhone is rumored to have a new design, lacking buttons, bezels, ports, and cutouts.
With a potentially revolutionary iPhone in 2027 and the planned release of Apple's smart glasses, it would be ideal if Apple could surprise the market with AR smart glasses in 2027. Can Tim Cook inspire Apple to achieve the impossible, as his predecessor did?
If Steve Jobs were alive, he would push the smart glasses team to include an AR display, regardless of the personal cost. This approach was used to create the iPhone. Changing the world is a difficult task.
Can Tim Cook surprise everyone by introducing AR-enabled smart glasses in 2027? The availability of TSMC's 2nm process node for processor manufacturing may help. Compared to the 3nm process node (N3P) used for the iPhone 17's A19 processors, the N2 process node could offer a 10% performance increase and a 20% efficiency improvement. The 2nm process node should allow Apple to create lightweight smart glasses with good battery life.
The component will enable Apple's smart glasses (with or without a display) by 2027.
Perhaps Apple will need to innovate in other ways if AR glasses are not feasible by 2027. Also, Tim Cook isn't Steve Jobs, who would demand much from engineers.
Some criticize Jobs for prioritizing product excellence at the expense of his employees' well-being. Jobs could also make last-minute device changes. One story involves a last-minute change during the iPhone's development. Steve disliked the plastic display of the prototypes and its tendency to scratch. He insisted on using glass, which forced last-minute modifications by overworked Apple employees.
Is it possible for Tim Cook to channel Steve Jobs and surprise the world with AR smart glasses in 2027? Apple is expected to unveil the glasses in 2026 and release them the next year which gives it an additional year to get the tech done.
