Apple's Digital ID can now be used at TSA checkpoints, making flying easier.

You’ll be able to use Digital ID at TSA checkpoints in over 250 airports in the US.
Digital IDs can be used at security checkpoints in over 250 American airports for domestic flights only. According to Apple, this digital form of identification cannot be used for international travel and does not replace a physical passport. TSA provides a list of states that support mobile IDs, but travelers are still encouraged to bring their physical ID.
Eventually, users will be able to use their Digital ID for identity and age verification with businesses and organizations online, through apps, and in person.
Presenting a Digital ID in person is similar to using other IDs in Wallet. By double-clicking the side button on an iPhone and choosing Digital ID, users can hold the phone near a scanner, review the requested information, and authenticate using Face ID or Touch ID.
Apple has stated that Digital ID data is encrypted, stored on the device, and that the company cannot see when or where ID data is presented or what data was shared. As the feature functions like Apple Pay, users do not need to unlock or hand over their iPhone to present their ID.
Digital ID expands upon existing ID features in Apple Wallet. Users in Puerto Rico and 12 states in the US can add their driver's licenses to Wallet. The feature is also available for Japan’s My Number Card, its first international expansion.
Google Wallet also supports state IDs, but in fewer states compared to Apple. However, the Google Wallet ID Pass feature can be used with both US and UK passports, but it is not a replacement for the physical document.
Apple is working towards completely replacing physical wallets with Apple Wallet. The company recently made it possible to store payment card details alongside their digital versions in Wallet, eliminating the need to carry physical cards. The app can also store loyalty cards, tickets, passes, and more.
With wider support for Digital ID at event venues, physical stores, and websites, physical wallets may eventually disappear completely.
