Arm's Lumex technology aims to significantly boost AI performance on phones while improving battery life.

It's all about on-device AI, not cloud-based AI.
Lumex combines Arm's processors and graphics with AI technology, which allows partners to create faster and more responsive devices.
Arm estimates that by 2030, over 3 billion devices will use Lumex, significantly improving on-device AI performance. Partners can use the platform as is, or customize it to meet specific performance goals.
Nak Hee Seong, Vice President at Samsung Electronics, said that Samsung is excited to continue its collaboration with Arm to develop its next mobile products, pushing the boundaries of on-device AI and delivering faster experiences for users.
The platform is optimized for efficiency and supported with software tools that help developers implement AI features.
Users can expect up to five times better AI performance, faster speech recognition, quicker audio generation, and sharper images, even in low light. Camera noise reduction can run at high frame rates, even in 4K, using only one core, resulting in clearer photos in dim lighting. Everyday apps will also run more smoothly while using less power.
Arm says that unlike cloud-based AI, Lumex keeps intelligence on the device itself, making it fast and secure.
This shift could make AI more useful in everyday life. Features like instant translation and sharper photos may make AI seem more like a practical tool. Sensitive data doesn't have to leave the device, though that could still be a concern for some.
