AT&T's 5G service is expected to improve for subscribers across the US.

T-Mobile was the first in the U.S. to deploy a 5G Standalone network back in 2020.
A 5G SA network employs a 5G core, designed for 5G connectivity, to achieve faster upload speeds, reduced latency, enhanced reliability, and specialized capabilities. One such capability involves offering wireless subscribers a dedicated, optimized portion of the network. With network slicing, a wireless provider utilizing 5G SA (like AT&T) can establish a virtualized network possessing specific attributes sought by the subscriber.
Certain subscribers might require a guaranteed low latency for exceptionally fast response times to inputs, crucial for applications like remote surgeries, autonomous vehicles, and real-time gaming. Other subscribers could prioritize greater reliability, while some might need a consistent minimum level of upload and download bandwidth. This ensures dependable performance, even during periods of network congestion.
"We prioritize the customer, aiming to deliver the best network experience, irrespective of the technology. We are dedicated to ensuring every innovation meets our standards for quality and reliability, rather than prematurely releasing something that might not be fully ready," the carrier stated.
AT&T indicated that 5G SA networks have advanced to a point suitable for nationwide deployment. The wireless provider commented, "This progress is facilitated by an open and virtualized network, enabling efficient scaling and fostering collaboration within an open ecosystem of partners. By adopting this open and virtualized network architecture, we are modernizing our infrastructure and unlocking considerable benefits for our customers and partners."
The company has already implemented 5G SA for select services across the country, noting that millions of its subscribers have utilized its 5G SA network. AT&T is expanding access to more customers "as device support and provisioning allow." In addition, AT&T recently introduced its 5G Reduced Capability (RedCap) technology nationwide, a low-bandwidth version of 5G ideal for wearable devices.
AT&T's 5G RedCap network is compatible with the new Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and Apple Watch SE 3. The 5G RedCap service lowers power consumption and needs fewer antennas.
With the nationwide availability of 5G SA on AT&T, the carrier affirms it is prepared for "the next phase of innovation, creativity, and connection."
