A few years ago, it seemed the manual transmission would be quickly relegated to the history books. However, a surge in demand for high-end exotics with manual gearboxes has reinvigorated this niche of the market, but curiously, it isn’t one which Lamborghini plans to participate in.
There’s little doubt that multi-million-dollar exotics from the likes of Pagani, Koenigsegg, and Gordon Murray Automotive have helped make manuals cool again, so much so that over the weekend, McLaren unveiled its first car with three pedals and a shifter since the legendary F1. This new car, dubbed the McL 6GT, is heading to production in 2028, aiming to put the driver at the center of the experience, not computers. Heck, even Ferrari has gone back to three pedals with the 12Cilindri Manuale, though its open-gate shifter and clutch pedal are a by-wire act layered over the same eight-speed dual-clutch.

Given the shift, one may expect Lamborghini to do the same, following the money. But while speaking with CarBuzz at the Monterey Car Week, company boss Stephan Winkelmann said the Italian brand has no plans to reintroduce a manual.
“For me, this is something which is not on our priority list, because we have a lot in the pipeline,” he said. “[The manual gearbox] is mostly for collectors, and today we don’t have any plans to do so.”
What Was The Last Manual Lamborghini?
Lamborghini hasn’t built a road car with a manual since the Gallardo LP560-2 50th Anniversary edition, presented in early 2013. The Murciélago LP670-4 SV was the final V12-powered Lamborghini available with a stick shift, and it’s thought that only five of these SVs were ever optioned with a clutch pedal.
The brand’s current commitment to electrified supercars, namely the Temerario and Revuelto, would no doubt make packaging a manual gearbox very difficult and expensive. For now, it seems Lamborghini is more interested in sticking with what it knows its customers want – ever-faster and ever-more-capable cars. At Monterey, it unveiled the limited-run Revuelto SV, delivering 1,050 hp and 1,051 lb-ft (1,425 Nm) of torque, set to be capped at just 1,963 examples.
