GeForce RTX 3080 Drops From 138 FPS to 4 FPS When DLSS 5 Neural Rendering is Enabled; Reports Confirm Similar Performance Drop With RTX 30 Series - Wccftech

I GOT DLSS 5 RUNNING ON MY RTX 3080!! So, unlike the 40-50% performance impact we saw on the RTX 50 and RTX 40 series, the RTX 30 series cannot properly play the game with DLSS 5 Neural Rendering. RTX 20, RTX 30, and RTX 40 may or may not get the DLSS 5 update, even though NVIDIA has opened the door to DLSS 4.5 for older RTX GPUs.
The latest DLSS technology reportedly works even on older RTX GPUs, but the performance regression is too large to enable a smooth gameplay.
Multiple users have confirmed that the upcoming DLSS 5 Neural Rendering can run even on older RTX GPUs such as the GeForce RTX 30 series Ampere cards. We recently saw how modders got their hands on the leaked DLL file to enable the technology in games before the official release. Very soon, some modders enabled DLSS 5 even on the RTX 40 series cards.
Up until now, it was unclear whether NVIDIA's new DLSS technology would work on older GPUs such as the RTX 30 and RTX 20 series. However, the user @flovreq just confirmed that DLSS 5 Neural Rendering does work on older GPUs like the GeForce RTX 3080. The user demonstrated the unofficial implementation on the RTX 3080 in Deep Rock Galactic.

In the video, we can see that the game was running in triple digits, but as soon as the user turned on DLSS Neural Rendering, the FPS dropped from 138 to just 4. This represents a staggering 97% performance drop, effectively rendering the game unplayable. We can see a huge impact on the FPS and frame times, as enabling DLSS 5 in the game increases the frame times from around 7-8 ms to a whopping 260 ms.
So, unlike the 40-50% performance impact we saw on the RTX 50 and RTX 40 series, the RTX 30 series cannot properly play the game with DLSS 5 Neural Rendering. It simply cannot sustain playable FPS, at least for now. Still, keep in mind that the implementation isn't ready to be deployed on the RTX 30 series, and there is no official confirmation from NVIDIA whether DLSS 5 will be released for older GPUs.
At the moment, the RTX 50 series remains the only GPU lineup that will receive the DLSS 5 Neural Rendering update in the fall. RTX 20, RTX 30, and RTX 40 may or may not get the DLSS 5 update, even though NVIDIA has opened the door to DLSS 4.5 for older RTX GPUs.
