Google Drive now has a hidden video playback feature.

Google’s AI Vids tool is now one click away while previewing your files.
Vids, launched last year as a tool to help users develop ideas, now features closer integration with Google Drive, streamlining video editing. Drive previously simplified the handling of large videos and facilitated searching within them.
Now, a new "Open" button appears in the top-right corner when previewing a video in Drive. Clicking it opens Vids in the browser, automatically loading the video for trimming, adding music, inserting text, and more. This enables video editing without downloads, suitable for rapid edits or last-minute changes before sharing.

There are some limitations to consider. Only MP4, QuickTime, OGG, and WebM files are supported. Individual clips are limited to 35 minutes or 4 GB. After editing, Vids creates a new file, requiring separate saving or exporting. The feature functions best on desktops using Chrome, Firefox, or Edge on Windows. Other browsers are supported but may have restrictions.
Vids is enabled by default for organizations, but it can be disabled at the domain level. Vids is inaccessible if Google Docs is disabled. The update is available across Google Workspace plans, including Business, Enterprise, Education accounts, and for users who purchased Gemini Business or Enterprise add-ons, as well as Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
Overall, this is a useful improvement. Editing videos directly in Drive saves time, conserves storage, and simplifies collaboration. Instead of using multiple applications, users can quickly modify and share videos with colleagues, making it a practical tool for professional or personal use.
