Google is updating its Android update process, starting with Android 16.

Android 16 is getting several new features in a surprising update that marks the start of a new era.
Google is introducing several new features, including ones previously limited to Pixel phones. One feature organizes notifications by grouping and silencing lower-priority alerts such as promotions, news, and social media. These notifications are categorized and can be reviewed or ignored.
AI also condenses lengthy messages and group chats into summaries.
Users can now personalize their home screen with a choice of five icon shapes. Themed icons can be applied across all apps for a consistent appearance. An enhanced dark theme option will darken apps lacking native dark themes, preventing bright screens.
A new Parental Control option within Settings allows parents to set screen time limits, app-specific limits, block apps, and schedule downtime, all secured by a PIN. Limits or scheduled breaks can also be extended.
The new menu includes a shortcut for setting up Google Family Link, providing additional parental controls and enabling parents to manage their child's device remotely.
Google's updated schedule is positive, but its impact on other manufacturers is uncertain. Given that some major manufacturers have only recently released their Android 16 updates, the new release plan could create complications.
