Google Maps is getting some UI changes in the future.

Looking to make the Google Maps app easier to use, Googlers have been doing some tweaking to the app.
Google frequently makes minor adjustments to Google Maps. Version 25.34.00.796159725 of Google Maps for Android contains some alterations to the app's settings page. The settings page has a less cluttered appearance and should be simpler to navigate.
A change to the map was also observed. The button for changing map views, located above the compass in the upper right corner, has been updated. This button lets users switch between the default map, satellite view, and terrain view.
The map type selection button is now colored. The current location crosshair button, which displays your location on Google Maps when tapped, has a new design. Additionally, Google has modified how the app presents information about locations. The lozenge-shaped buttons at the top of a location's card, which offer options like Directions, Ticket details (schedule, prices, and a link to Ticketmaster), are now at the bottom when the page expands.
The Street View preview now has a squircle shape, aligning with Google's Material 3 Expressive design principles.
Moreover, tapping the search bar at the top of the app displays a list of recent searches. The updated version of Google Maps introduces a different layout featuring an Explore option. This option utilizes location, time of day, and past search history to recommend restaurants, historical sites, and local events in the displayed area.
The updated version is not yet available, even with Google Maps version 25.34.00.796159725 on a Pixel 6 Pro running Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1. The update is likely a server-side change that Google needs to activate. To check the Google Maps version on an Android phone, navigate to Settings > Apps > See all apps, then find and tap Maps to access the App info page. The version number is at the bottom.
The update might not be visible even with the correct Google Maps version installed. The release date is unknown, but given the update's minor enhancements, users can anticipate its arrival.
