Google Maps is testing a new, useful feature.

For those always worrying about having enough battery life while using Google Maps, a feature being tested might help you relax.
Google Maps for Android may soon offer a "power saving mode" that limits the information displayed to extend battery life. Visuals will be in black and white, and the screen will only show the next turn and trip distance.
The street names will not appear on the display in this mode. Drivers who rely on street names for navigation may make incorrect turns. It is unknown if the app will still provide directions based on traffic lights and stop signs, a feature some users prefer.
The new mode will function independently of a phone's existing battery-saving settings. When used together, they should preserve enough power for Google Maps to complete a trip.
Screenshots of Google Maps for Android in "power saving mode" show a directional arrow at the top, along with written directions such as "head north" or "head south." The display will also include remaining time and mileage, as well as the estimated arrival time. It is not clear if the app will continue to provide spoken directions.
The launch date for this feature is unknown. However, users who frequently rely on the app for long journeys may find it helpful.
