Google Maps on Android is getting a few user interface tweaks.

Google is rolling out changes to the buttons found on the Android version of its mapping and navigation app.
Google Maps provides recommendations for dining, lodging options, and historical sites. As a Google product, the app frequently receives user interface updates.
Google Maps for Android is updating two buttons. The Floating Action Button (FAB) in the lower right corner is now smaller. This teal button has a diamond shape with a teal arrow pointing right. After entering a destination, tapping it leads to the route planning screen. Stops can be added by selecting "Edit stops" in the three-dot menu next to the "Your location" box.
The three-dot menu also lets you change your vehicle's avatar, choose fuel-efficient routes, avoid tolls, highways, and ferries, and view toll estimates.
The button above the FAB, which displays your location, has been updated. Previously a blue arrow in a circle, it is now squircle-shaped with a compass icon. The icon changes to a blue dot if the map isn't centered on your position.
The layers button on the right has a new look, with a small dot added to the icon. This button lets users select map types, such as default, satellite, or terrain views. It also offers details on public transit, traffic, bicycle routes, and street view.
These changes are rolling out to Android users with version 25.39 of Google Maps. The updated design is present in version 25.40 on a Pixel 6 Pro. Google Maps is available for download from the Google Play Store.
These alterations reflect Google's research into user preferences, ensuring that they are meaningful. For instance, the location button's icon change may enhance the association between the button and the blue dot that indicates your position.
In other news, "Iconic Phones: Revolution at Your Fingertips," a coffee table book exploring the technological revolution of the 21st century, will be available in a few months.
