Google may have given Pixel 8 users a good reason to keep their phones.

Evidence suggests that a popular Pixel 10 and Pixel 9 series feature is coming to the Pixel 8
Google is seemingly preparing to expand one of its AI tools to older devices, along with a new function.
Pixel 8 owners who felt excluded from the AI capabilities of the Pixel 9 and later models may be in for a pleasant surprise. Google appears to be planning to bring Pixel Studio to the 2023 flagship series. Previously, this application, which allows users to generate images or edit existing ones using AI prompts, was limited to newer hardware.
However, a discovery in Google's official support documentation reveals that the text has been updated. It now specifies "Pixel 8 and later," instead of "Pixel 9 and later."
Furthermore, the documentation also revealed a new "Animate image" feature. While not yet available, the instructions for its use are already provided.
The process for turning a static image into a motion graphic is as follows:
* Motion: Tap the "Animate image" button.
* Refinement: Enter a custom prompt or select one of Google's suggestions to direct the movement.
* Flair: Add captions or stickers after the animation generates.
* Export: Save the result as a WebP file or a GIF to share.
This update defies the trend of manufacturers limiting new software features to the latest phones to encourage upgrades. By bringing Pixel Studio to the Pixel 8, Google is enhancing the value of an existing device.
This contrasts with Apple's approach. Apple's "Image Playground," part of Apple Intelligence, is restricted to the iPhone 15 Pro and the upcoming 16 series. By extending Pixel Studio to the Pixel 8, Google is offering better support for older hardware than its main competitor.
This update targets creative individuals and those who enjoy making memes, who may not have wanted to spend a significant amount on a Pixel 10 Pro this year.
While this news is positive, the rollout is not yet complete. Google updated the support pages before the feature was available for download. Currently, Pixel 8 users may not see the update in the Play Store, creating a period of anticipation.
Pixel Studio on the Pixel 9a is enjoyable and suitable for creating images for specific jokes. While it may not replace professional tools like Photoshop, receiving it as a free update on an existing phone is a significant benefit. It enhances the Pixel 8 as a worthwhile investment.
We will be monitoring the Play Store for the official release.
