Google Messages is updating its chat organization features.

You can now pin way more conversations.
The latest update to Google Messages allows users to pin up to 20 chats, a feature designed to keep important conversations easily accessible. To use this feature, simply open the app, long-press a conversation, and select “Pin.” Pinned chats will remain at the top of the screen, regardless of new incoming messages.
A subtle yet valuable improvement
Google Messages, with its large global user base, receives frequent updates. While this particular update may seem minor, it offers significant benefits to users who actively manage numerous conversations.
However, pinning a large number of chats could potentially create a long list. Important messages could be pushed further down, which could make it more difficult to see the conversations users intended to prioritize.
Is Google Messages becoming too complex?
While this writer does not use Google Messages regularly, the update frequency is notable. The cumulative effect of these smaller additions is changing the app's feel.
The app has seen the introduction of user profiles, screen effects, customized bubbles, reaction effects, Gemini AI, and now, increased pin capacity. These incremental changes may be detracting from the simple user experience that Google Messages once offered.
