Google needs to clarify how Gemini will work on Pixel phones.

Why do Pixel users have to call for Google when they want Gemini?
People often find it easier to say shorter words. However, some users feel that "Hey Gemini" (four syllables) is easier to say than "Hey Google" (three syllables). Some find Google harder to pronounce, and it can be confusing when you want Gemini but have to say "Hey Google."
Currently, Pixels using Gemini require the "Hey Google" hotword. The same applies to Google Assistant. To switch to Gemini, go to Settings > Apps > Assistant and select Gemini under Digital Assistants from Google.
Regardless of your chosen assistant, "Hey Google" remains the activation phrase. Quick Tap offers an alternative: double-tapping the phone's back panel activates your selected assistant. Enable this in Settings > System > Gestures > Quick Tap to start actions, then choose "Access your digital assistant." This avoids using the power button or hotword.
To disable the power button shortcut, navigate to Settings > System > Gestures > Press & hold power button. Here, choose between opening the Power menu or the Digital assistant with a long press. A sensitivity slider adjusts the press duration needed.
Previously, Pixel phones had another method. The Pixel 2 (2017) introduced Active Edge, activating Google Assistant by squeezing the phone's sides. Although discontinued after the Pixel 4, it still worked with Gemini. Active Edge was useful for silent activation. Quick Tap may be the best alternative on Pixel 6 or later models if you want to avoid saying "Hey Google."
Ultimately, Google should change Gemini's hotword to "Hey Gemini" or just "Gemini." This change is likely as Google plans to replace Google Assistant with Gemini on Android. Switching to Gemini offers enhanced query processing and seamless alarm setting.
