Google Photos' new feature offers more storage and improves app organization.

Said to be just weeks away, this new feature is coming to both the Android and iOS Google Photos app.

Google Photos will soon include a new function that groups similar images by stacking them. Users can choose the best photo from a stack, save it, and delete the others. Alternatively, users can have AI pick the best image and remove the rest with a single tap. This will make photo galleries cleaner and free up device storage.

The new stacking function is similar to the Pixel's Top Shot, which takes numerous shots before and after the shutter is pressed and then uses AI to select the best one. While Top Shot is exclusive to Pixel phones, the new photo stacking feature is anticipated to be available to all Google Photos users, including those using iPhones. This is a component of Google's strategy to incorporate AI into more applications.

To see if the update with the feature has been installed on your device, launch the Google Photos app. In the upper right corner, tap the profile symbol, then Google Photos Settings > Preferences, and turn on "Group similar photos" if it's available.

If the option appears, the tool is active on the phone. The Google Photos stacking tool is expected to be released for Android devices first. Some users prefer to keep every image, even if it uses a lot of storage. What will you do after the photo stacking feature is available on your phone?
