Google's Gemini is getting a new feature that will compete with ChatGPT.

After the initial preview in June, sharing custom AI assistants is now available to everyone.
Previously, Gemini users were unable to share their customized Gems or utilize Gems created by others. Google is now enabling all users to share their Gems with those who have personal or Workspace accounts.
Gems are stored within Drive.
Gems can be shared by using the share button, located next to the edit icon, in the ‘My Gems’ list on the Gemini web version. Using the same system as Google Drive, users can share via email or by generating a link.
When a shared Gem is opened, a message will appear on the chat page indicating that it is a shared Gem and its instructions may be subject to change. After a prompt is entered, it will be saved in a new ‘Shared with me’ area within the Gem manager. Users have the option to copy the Gem, as well as view and modify the instructions.
After sharing a Gem, a new folder titled “Gemini Gems” will appear in Google Drive. These files are marked with the Gemini icon; opening them will redirect to the Gemini interface.
This update was anticipated.
OpenAI has offered Custom GPTs for some time, a popular feature of ChatGPT. The author believes Gemini often surpasses ChatGPT in certain functions, and is pleased that Google has now enabled Gem sharing. This addition has the potential to simplify collaborative workflows and broaden access to Gemini's more sophisticated capabilities.
