Following Google's recent Made by Google event, some viewers likened it to an episode of a talk show. While the host's enthusiasm and tech knowledge were evident (correctly defining the IP rating), his interactions with Google's SVP of Platforms and Devices, Rick Osterloh, often resembled late-night television banter.
Osterloh made a key statement highlighting a difference between iPhones and Pixel phones. He stated that "Personal Intelligence," is the guiding principle for Google's AI advancement. The goal is for AI to proactively assist users by anticipating their needs.
The Made by Google event featured subtle jabs at Apple. Osterloh and the host noted the event was live, a contrast to Apple's pre-recorded iPhone announcements since 2020. Osterloh called the live unveiling "A game-changing launch event."
Osterloh also alluded to Apple's delayed AI features when discussing AI capabilities, saying, "There has been a lot of hype about this, and frankly, a lot of broken promises too." He affirmed that "Gemini is the real deal."
Google's VP of Marketing, Adrienne Lofton, also spoke and addressed user frustrations with smartphones, citing distractions and time consumption. She also mentioned that phones are often too much of a "walled garden," a common description of Apple's closed ecosystem. Android is often preferred for its open and customizable platform.
Apple is scheduled to hold its next product event next month.
