Google will replace the current weather app on Wear OS 6 and newer smartwatches.

Those using a watch running on Wear OS 5 or older won't have to make any changes.
Smartwatches using Wear OS 6 or later will no longer have the current Google Weather app. It will be automatically replaced by the new Pixel Weather app. Google suggests that users utilize the weather app from their watch's manufacturer, or a third-party weather app from the Wear OS Play Store. Users with Wear OS 5 or older can still download the original Google Weather app.
If you have the Google Weather app on a Samsung, OnePlus, or Mobvoi smartwatch, updating to Wear OS 6 will allow you to keep it.
For Pixel Watch users with Wear OS 6 or newer, the Google Weather app will be replaced with the new Pixel Weather app. The new app uses the Material 3 Expressive design to display weather information quickly. Wear OS users can also ask Gemini or Google Assistant for weather updates.
A similar change occurred on Pixel smartphones last year. Before the dedicated Pixel Weather app with the Pixel 9 series in 2024, users relied on the Google Search app's weather feature and the "At a Glance" widget. Last October, Google enabled Pixel 6, 7, and 8 series phones to install the new Pixel Weather app via a Pixel Feature Drop update.
The Pixel Weather app provides comprehensive weather information, replacing the old Google Weather tool featuring a cartoon frog. To install the Pixel Weather app on your Pixel phone, use the provided link.
Google is updating the weather app on Wear OS 6 or higher Pixel Watch models to create a consistent experience for Pixel users. The new Pixel Weather app is designed specifically for the Pixel Watch and its users. Google states that Pixel Watches on Wear OS 6 or newer will automatically receive the new Pixel Weather app.
The Pixel Weather app is optimized for battery life, using up to 10% less energy than the previous Wear OS weather app. With Gemini, users can ask the AI chatbot for weather advice instead of manually checking the app.
Google is also providing new Weather tiles for Pixel Weather on devices running Wear OS 3 and later. This allows users with older watches to experience some of the new Material 3 Expressive Pixel Weather app's features.
Google introduced the Pixel Watch 4 on August 20th, with its release on October 9th. The 41mm model will cost $349.99 for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and $449.99 for Cellular/LTE. The 44mm versions will be $50 more, at $399.99 and $499.99 for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and Cellular/LTE, respectively.
