Huawei has released its second foldable phone with a tri-fold design.

The new Mate XTs is a minor but meaningful update that solidifies Huawei's lead in the next generation of foldable devices.

The Mate XTs has a starting price of 17,999 yuan, or about $2,520. While this is a high price for a phone, it is less expensive than the first Mate XT, which was launched at 19,999 yuan (about $2,800).
Huawei is ahead of its competition in the foldable category. Samsung is expected to release its first trifold soon, but Huawei already has a second version. Because of Samsung's global reach and software ecosystem, its device is highly anticipated to take the foldable form factor and make it more mainstream.
While the technology is impressive, the trifold market is still a niche product for most consumers. The price remains a barrier, and Huawei's software limitations outside of China make it difficult to recommend. The Mate XTs offers a glimpse into the future, but it is still a gadget for those with the resources.
