Huawei has surpassed Apple Watch in sales, possibly because Apple isn't focused on improving its smartwatches.

The battery life is especially crucial for sports enthusiasts. Previously, the Apple Watch would run out of power during long bike rides. Using GPS to track cycling consumes a lot of energy. Unless starting with a full charge, the Apple Watch couldn’t last the entire 8-9 hour ride. Other brands, such as Garmin and Huawei, would last through the activity and still have battery life remaining.

While Apple claims its watch has superior capabilities compared to Huawei or Garmin, improved battery performance is more valuable than almost any third-party application.

Since the U.S. ban, Huawei's presence in the American smartphone market has diminished, and it has lost ground in various other markets outside of China. However, the company has concentrated on producing wearables and accessories, which are generally well-received outside the U.S. Their compatibility with any phone, even non-Huawei devices, contributes to their appeal.

A Huawei Watch could be the best alternative to the Apple Watch for iPhone users. Some features may not function as well as with an Android phone, but Huawei wearables still perform all functions that Apple permits on third-party devices when paired with an iPhone.

The Apple Watch can only be paired with an iPhone. While this offers convenient integrations, it would be beneficial if Apple allowed its watches to be used with Android phones, even with feature limitations.

Although this could increase Apple's wearable sales, it could also negatively impact its brand image. Given the quality of competitors like the Pixel Watch 4 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 8, people may only buy an Apple Watch within its ecosystem.

The Apple Watch design is another drawback. While its rectangular shape is appealing, a design update would be welcome. The Apple Watch design has largely remained the same for the past 10 years, except for a larger display and slimmer bezels.

Huawei offers an extensive range of designs. For example, the Huawei Watch GT 5 comes in different sizes and designs, and the Watch GT 5 Pro offers additional distinct designs.

For those who prefer rectangular watches, the Watch Fit 4 and Watch D2 are options. Additionally, there are the high-end Watch Ultimate models and the budget-friendly Band Series. Unlike Apple, Huawei provides customers with a diverse selection of designs and prices.

Despite these criticisms, Apple has the potential to reverse its course and regain its leading position.

With its software and feature advantages, Apple should focus on hardware improvements. Diversifying its product line, improving battery life, and increasing openness could significantly improve its standing. With the addition of AI enhancements, it could dominate the market for another decade.
