Pixel 10 devices with Qi 2.0.1 are compatible with the same chargers and support wireless charging up to 15W. Google's use of an older Qi2 version, despite the standard's ability to handle faster speeds, is curious.

Google explained to Android Authority that its decision to limit charging speed was to minimize heat and improve battery life.

Although initially limited to iPhones and a few Android devices, Qi2 adoption increased with the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, which supports Qi 2.1.0 and is "Qi2 Ready," allowing full Qi2 functionality via magnetic cases.

Unlike Samsung, Google is the first major Android manufacturer to fully embrace Qi2 with integrated magnets. Google is also working with the WPC to create the Qi 2.2 standard, which enables faster wireless charging up to 25W.

Wireless charging paired with magnets offers great convenience. I value battery life over fast charging, so Google's approach makes sense to me. It will be interesting to see if Apple increases MagSafe charging speeds to 25W on all iPhone 17 models.
