OpenAI acquired Ive’s startup io for $6.5 billion in May to realize this concept: a screenless, palm-sized device that uses audio and visual input to understand its environment and respond naturally.

The current market presents challenges. AI devices, such as the AI Pin, in which Sam Altman invested, have been discontinued. This could explain OpenAI's cautious approach to introducing its own product.

The $199 Rabbit R1, once known for its unique design and potential, has faced difficulties with technical problems, limited features, and low consumer demand, indicating that affordable AI gadgets are not assured success.

OpenAI and Ive reportedly aim to develop an intuitive smart assistant that can understand a user's mood and context without a screen.

People enjoy using screens.
