According to reports, the Metropolitan Police stated that Apple has complete access to its National Mobile Phone Register (NMPR), a database containing information on stolen mobile devices. The Met asserts that Apple utilizes this access daily, but not for its intended function.
This disagreement is not the first instance of tension between the two parties on this issue. In 2023, the mayor of London requested that Apple and Google implement particular security features on their devices.
