Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 updates MGS4 joke, even brings back original voice actor - Nintendo Everything

Following hands-on verdicts of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, an interesting tidbit has come to light about a joke that’s been updated in Metal Gear Solid 4.

In the original release, after reaching Shadow Moses Island, the game referenced changing the discs of the first Metal Gear Solid when you reach this same location. Otacon says: “Hold it, Snake. Time to change the disc. I know, I know, it’s a pain. But you need to swap Disc 1 for Disc 2. You see the disc labelled ‘2’?” Snake then says there isn’t a second disc, prompting Otacon to realize: “Oh, wait! We’re on PlayStation 3.”

For one thing, we’re well beyond the PlayStation 3 era. Additionally, now Metal Gear Solid 4 is on multiple platforms. Konami ended up handling this is an interesting way.

Depending on what you’re playing on, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection now references that system. You won’t hear PlayStation 3 any longer, but it looks like you’ll instead hear Nintendo Switch instead as an example.

Konami really paid attention to the details here. It turns out that Christopher Randolph reprised his role to record the updated lines for each instance.

In other news, as we heard this week, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 has apparently removed a reference to MGS4’s PS3 on Nintendo platforms. We have more on that here.

Konami’s latest collection comes to Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch on August 27, 2026.
