Motorola's new mid-range phone has a surprisingly large battery given its thin design.
The aptly named Moto X70 Air is official (in China) with a spec sheet that's likely to make both Apple and Samsung jealous of Motorola's engineering feat.
Motorola is joining the competition for ultra-thin smartphones, rivaling Samsung and Apple. The new Moto X70 Air aims to be nearly as slim as the Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone Air, while featuring a larger battery and a lower price.

This Motorola phone is not a flagship device and is not intended to compete directly with high-end phones like the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge.
The S25 Edge has a 3,900mAh battery inside its 5.8mm thin design. The Moto X70 Air manages to include a 23 percent larger battery without significantly increasing the thickness. While the iPhone Air is expected to be slimmer at 5.6mm, its battery is smaller than the Galaxy S25 Edge.
The Galaxy S25 Plus, for comparison, has a 4,900mAh battery but is 7.3mm thick and weighs 190 grams.
The Moto X70 Air has eye-catching colors, a flat screen, and a durable build. It also features the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor.
This Qualcomm chipset replaces the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 found in devices like the Motorola Edge 50 Pro, Honor 400, and OnePlus Nord CE4.
The Edge 60 series used MediaTek Dimensity processors instead of Snapdragon chips, but this may change with the upcoming Edge 70 series.
The X70 Air's specifications could be adopted for a global audience in the next few months with a new Motorola Edge 70 phone. The price of the Moto X70 Air in China is unknown, and it is not indicative of prices in other markets.
The Edge 70 may soon be available in other countries, presenting a buying decision.
It may be difficult for other companies to increase battery capacity beyond 4,800mAh or decrease thickness below 5.99mm. However, more brands are expected to release similar "Air" models in the coming months, which could further push design boundaries and lower prices.
