Off-Road Ford Mustang 'Baja' Shown Off At Dealer Meeting, Again - Jalopnik
Oh, and how could we forget the Mustang Mach-E, the electric Mustang that really doesn't have much to do with the coupe. Hell, Ford even dipped its toes into that water with the Mustang Mach-E Rally. Sure, it's not exactly the same thing, but there is at least some precedent for an off-road Mustang.
The off-road-focused Ford Mustang we've been telling you about for at least three years at this point is taking another step toward reality, as the Blue Oval once again showed off an all-terrain 'Stang to its dealers. I suppose it's the next level of CEO Jim Farley's quest to make Ford the "Porsche of off-road."
It has been a little while since we've talked about it, as the rumor mill seems to have run dry, but wackos who are into the idea of an off-road Mustang (read: me) can rejoice, because exciting things look to be on the horizon. Ford has recently shown dealers "an off-road Mustang called the Baja," according to an Automotive News video report. There's still no clear timetable for when such a beast would actually hit the sales floor, but it does represent at least some movement for the wacky creation. There's also no word on what will power it (surely it'll be a V8) or if it'll be rear- or all-wheel drive.
The Baja will theoretically join an ever-growing Mustang lineup. We just reported on the 4-door 'Stang dealers were pitched that is likely to come within the next few years. It also just expanded its Dark Horse lineup with the SC Convertible, offering up 795 horsepower worth of drop-top fun. Oh, and how could we forget the Mustang Mach-E, the electric Mustang that really doesn't have much to do with the coupe.
We first told you about the all-terrain Mustang back in 2023, when it was originally slated to come out sometime in 2026. I don't know if you noticed or not, but that never really came to fruition. That was right around the time that lifted all-terrain versions of sports cars were getting really hot — think Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracán Sterrato, as well as aftermarket air-cooled 911 Safari builds.
Hell, Ford even dipped its toes into that water with the Mustang Mach-E Rally. Sure, it's not exactly the same thing, but there is at least some precedent for an off-road Mustang. Hell, last year, Ford even said it wanted to build some sort of Raptor as a "standalone supercar" that wasn't based on any existing model. It would just add to the other Raptors that Ford already sells in Ranger, F-150 and Bronco guise.
Farley is clearly very serious about his "Porsche of off-road" mantra.
