Opera's iOS browser now helps users manage and avoid getting overwhelmed by numerous open tabs.

Opera's focus on tab management pays off on the latest version of Opera for iOS.
Opera is highlighting new features added to its iOS browser app, hoping iPhone users will switch from Safari and set Opera as their default. The company aims to attract users by easing the transition and offering a superior browsing experience.
To address the problem of managing numerous open tabs, Opera has introduced an advanced tab management system for iOS. The new tab search function lets users locate specific webpages or URLs by entering keywords. Opera for iOS users can also navigate between regular tabs, synced tabs from other devices, and private browsing session tabs.
Opera believes its enhanced tab management will encourage iPhone users to adopt Opera for iOS as their default browser. According to Opera product manager Jona Bolin, the company embraces tab overload, stating that they provide the tools to effectively manage it.
The writer admits to using Opera as their default mobile browser on their iPhone 11 Pro Max, because it was the only free iOS browser that displayed the New York Times website exactly as it appears on a desktop computer. Other browsers would alter the design to fit the mobile screen, sometimes making the font too small.
Opera has implemented additional changes to attract iPhone users. Users can now customize which features are displayed on the main screen, placing their most frequently used tools within easy reach. For example, Opera's Aria AI assistant has been moved to the bottom bar's center for quicker access. Aria will connect users with either GPT-4o or Gemini 2.0, depending on the request.
Opera for iOS provides customizable wallpapers from various categories. The Startpage Carousel offers a dynamic newsfeed and live football scores, allowing users to stay updated on current events and sports.
