Samsung has previewed its prototype tri-fold phone design.

Images reveal how the Galaxy G Fold folds and unfolds.
The triple folding phone is behind glass, making a detailed inspection impossible. Images of the device are credited to Park Ji-min of The Chosun Daily.
The device was displayed behind glass at Samsung’s booth, preventing physical interaction. However, images show it both folded and fully open, and a video demonstrates the folding mechanism. Unlike the Huawei Mate XT, which folds in a Z-shape, the Galaxy phone folds inward, similar to folding a letter, as anticipated.
Samsung has not yet disclosed any specifications. The summit is ongoing, so additional information may be released later if Samsung chooses to share it.
However, there have been some rumored specs.
Speculation indicates a 6.5-inch external display and a 10-inch internal main screen. The phone may run on a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor. The camera setup might include a 200MP primary sensor with 100x zoom, along with software optimized for the three-screen configuration, offering enhanced multiwindow capabilities.
Initial estimates suggest a price of around $3,000, making it more expensive than Huawei’s existing triple foldable phones, the Mate XT and Mate XTs. Currently, Huawei is the only company shipping triple folding devices. Samsung's entry into this market could be a game changer, assuming the phone becomes widely available.
Huawei Mate XT Review: The first tri-fold phone
The first production run is expected to be limited, with reports indicating between 50,000 and 200,000 units. Availability could be restricted to South Korea, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and potentially the UAE. The US and Europe might have to wait, or be excluded from the initial launch.

What it means for Samsung
For Samsung, this device represents more than just another phone. A triple-foldable smartphone blurs the distinction between smartphones, tablets, and even laptops. It offers a preview of Samsung's ongoing development efforts, though it remains unclear whether it's a final product or merely a prototype.
Hopefully, this is the final product and not just another prototype. Given previous concept models and teasers, surprises are still possible regarding the design, specifications, and the timing and locations of the actual launch, pending official details.
