Samsung is reportedly planning to release two Galaxy Z Fold models in 2026.

In addition to a predictable Galaxy Z Fold 8 with a "conventional" design, Samsung is reportedly preparing a wider book-style foldable for a 2026 release as well.
To be clear, the speculated name is not yet final. While not confirmed, a generally reliable Korean media outlet reports that the details of Samsung's 2026 foldable market strategy will be "finalized by the end of this month or early next month."
Samsung is anticipated to reveal a new type of foldable device alongside a standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 in the summer of 2026. This "wide-type" Fold might combine dual 18:9 screens for an unusual 18:18 (or 1:1) aspect ratio when unfolded.
The Z Fold 7's 8-inch display has a resolution of 2184 x 1968 pixels, resulting in an aspect ratio of approximately 10:9 (or 20:18). While details are preliminary, the iPhone Fold is rumored to use a classic iPad-like 4:3 (or 25:15) aspect ratio for its main screen. Rather than imitate its rival, Samsung may be following Google's lead.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold features a 1:1 aspect ratio on its 8-inch foldable panel. It appears Samsung and Google may be partnering to compete with Apple, a move some analysts believe will be unsuccessful.
It is uncertain whether it is an error, but the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE is absent from the report. Samsung's Galaxy Z series is described as having "one Flip and one Fold" model, possibly indicating the company does not intend to release a successor to the Z Flip 7 Fan Edition next year.
Samsung's plan to expand its foldable series with a "wide-type" book-style model likely means the rumored Galaxy Z Fold Fan Edition is also not planned for 2026.
Unless this 18:18 aspect ratio device is more affordable than the Galaxy Z Fold 8 with less impressive specs and a lower-quality build, which is improbable, though possible.
For those who wished the Galaxy Z Fold 7's 8-inch screen was shorter and wider, Samsung is reportedly considering those preferences.
The second-largest foldable vendor is focused on diversifying its designs and products in this niche market, which many predict will become mainstream with Apple's introduction of the iPhone Fold.
While there are other ways to offer variety that users desire, the "Galaxy Wide Fold" may differentiate itself from the Galaxy Z Fold 8 in ways beyond just aspect ratio. More information about this mysterious product is needed before making conclusions.
