Samsung Leak Claims 6 Galaxy Z Foldables for 2027 [2026] - https://tech-insider.org/

A leak making the rounds on October 17, 2026, claims Samsung is preparing to double the size of its foldable phone family in 2027, pushing the Galaxy Z line from two models to six. The report, first attributed to tipster Anthony (also known on X as @TheGalox_), lists the Galaxy Z Slide, Galaxy Z TriFold 2, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Pro, Galaxy Z Fold 9, and Galaxy Z Flip 9 as the six devices Samsung is reportedly plotting for next year.

Outlets including PhoneArena, SammyFans, NokiaPowerUser, and the German site Prad.de have all picked up the claim within the same 48-hour window, which is usually a sign a leak has legs, even if Samsung itself has said nothing. None of the six names, specs, or a 2027 timeline have been confirmed by Samsung. What follows is a breakdown of what is actually being reported, what the foldable market data says about why Samsung might need this expansion, and where the claim should be treated with caution.

The core of the story is simple: instead of the usual two-model Galaxy Z lineup (a Fold and a Flip), Samsung is rumored to be lining up six distinct foldable or flexible devices for 2027. According to the leak, the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is expected to be first out of the gate, following up on Samsung’s original tri-fold device. The rest of the lineup, as described by the leak, would fill out across book-style and clamshell categories, plus an entirely new rollable form factor in the Galaxy Z Slide.

It is worth repeating what Samsung has and has not said. Samsung has not confirmed any of the six model names, has not confirmed a 2027 launch window, and has not released pricing, specifications, or launch dates for any of them. Readers searching for a Samsung Galaxy Z 2027 foldable lineup should treat every detail below as a leak until Samsung’s own newsroom says otherwise, most likely around a future Galaxy Unpacked event.

Here is how the leaked six-device Galaxy Z roadmap breaks down by category, based on the names circulating in the leak.

If accurate, this would mark the first time Samsung has split its book-style Fold line into three separate tiers in a single year, rather than offering one standard Fold and occasionally a special edition.

The most eye-catching name on the leaked list is the Galaxy Z Slide. Unlike Samsung’s existing foldables, which use a hinge to fold a flexible screen in half, the Z Slide is described as a rollable device, one where the display physically extends outward from the body rather than unfolding. Samsung has shown off expandable-display concepts at past trade shows, which makes the idea technically plausible, but a concept demo on a stage is a long way from a shipping product with a price tag. No design, screen size, or release window for the Galaxy Z Slide has been confirmed.

The Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is a more straightforward story: it is reportedly the direct successor to Samsung’s existing Galaxy phone lineup strategy of experimenting with tri-fold hardware. The leak claims the TriFold 2 is slated to be the first of the six rumored devices to actually ship, ahead of the rest of the 2027 slate. Again, Samsung has offered no confirmation of specs, pricing, or timing for a second-generation tri-fold device.

The other notable shift in the leak is the idea that Samsung’s book-style Fold line could split into three tiers: a standard Galaxy Z Fold 9, a Galaxy Z Fold 9 Pro positioned in between, and a Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra sitting at the top. That would mirror how Samsung already segments its non-folding Galaxy S line into standard, Plus, and Ultra models, so extending the same logic to the Fold line would not be a stretch strategically, even if none of the three names have been verified by Samsung.

The leak reportedly points to broad improvements in battery capacity, thickness, and weight across the lineup, but it does not include any numerical targets, so there is no confirmed battery size, panel thickness, or weight figure to report for any of the three Fold variants. Anyone citing a specific milliamp-hour rating or millimeter thickness for a “Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra” right now is going well beyond what the current leak actually says.

Rounding out the rumored six is the Galaxy Z Flip 9, the expected continuation of Samsung’s clamshell foldable. Compared with the Slide, the TriFold 2, and the three-tier Fold split, the Flip 9 is the least surprising name on the list, since it simply continues a numbering sequence Samsung has followed for several generations. No details on its cover screen, camera setup, or pricing have surfaced in the current leak, and it should be read as the safest, most likely-to-ship entry on the list precisely because it breaks the least new ground.

Leaks about new phone names are common; leaks about a company tripling its product tiers and adding two new form factors in a single year are not. So why would Samsung consider this kind of expansion? The leak itself does not state a motive, but it lines up with publicly reported market data showing Samsung’s position in book-style foldables has been slipping against Chinese rivals.

According to cited market tracking data, book-style foldables shipped roughly 5.1 million units globally in the first half of 2026. Of that volume, Chinese manufacturers accounted for about 57% of shipments, while Samsung held roughly 18%, with Huawei and Samsung together representing close to 75% of the entire book-style segment. In other words, Samsung is still one of the two biggest names in the category, but Chinese brands collectively have pulled well ahead on volume. A six-model lineup spanning three price tiers, a tri-fold, and an entirely new rollable category would be one way to answer that pressure on multiple fronts at once, from budget-conscious buyers to early adopters chasing something genuinely new. It would also mean investing further in the software side of the foldable experience, an area where Samsung has already been expanding features like faster Samsung Health coaching turnaround across its device ecosystem.

Whatever Samsung decides for 2027, the underlying foldable market is still growing fast enough to justify experimentation. Below is a snapshot of the publicly reported figures behind the current book-style foldable landscape.

Those numbers describe a category that is still a small slice of the overall smartphone market but is growing consistently year over year, with Huawei, Samsung, Honor, OPPO, vivo, Google, and Motorola all named as active participants pushing that growth through 2030.

Separate from the book-style-specific figures above, several research firms have published their own foldable growth forecasts, and it is worth noting how much they diverge from one another, which says something about how unsettled this market still is. IDC projects that “global foldable smartphone shipments are forecast to reach approximately 27 million units in 2027, up 18% year over year,” according to its Smartphone Market Insights tracker.

Counterpoint Research has published two different figures depending on the report cycle. Its more recent note states that “global foldable smartphone shipments are expected to grow 37% year over year in 2027,” per its foldable shipment tracker, while an earlier Counterpoint forecast, cited by the Times of India, projected that “global foldable smartphone shipments are projected to reach 101.5 million units in 2027, up from 78.6 million units in 2026.” Omdia, meanwhile, has forecast that “foldable smartphone shipments are forecast to reach 36 million units by 2028, with the market growing by more than 20% annually through 2028,” according to its smartphone feature forecast reported via Business Wire.

The spread between a 27 million-unit forecast and a 101.5 million-unit forecast for the same calendar year is large enough that readers should treat any single foldable shipment number as a directional estimate rather than a hard figure. What all three firms agree on is the direction: foldable shipments are rising every year, not falling, which is the backdrop against which a six-model Samsung lineup would have to compete.

Samsung effectively created the mainstream foldable category with the original Galaxy Fold, but it is no longer the only serious player, and the market-share data above shows why a broader lineup is at least a logical response. Huawei has emerged as the single largest book-style foldable vendor by volume in the Chinese-manufacturer bloc that now controls more than half of global shipments. Honor and OPPO have both pushed thinner hinge designs and lighter book-style devices aimed directly at the segment Samsung’s standard Fold line occupies.

None of the current reporting verifies specific 2026-era specs, prices, or shipment totals for individual Huawei, Honor, or OPPO foldable models, so this piece will not assign numbers to products that were not part of the verified research. What is verifiable is the shape of the competition: a market where Chinese brands collectively outship Samsung in the book-style category, which is the exact pressure point a six-model 2027 lineup, spanning three Fold tiers, a tri-fold, a rollable, and a Flip, would be designed to relieve. Even Apple, which has no foldable on the market, has shown how quickly novel form factors can sell out, with its dual-screen iPhone Duo already backordered into January after launch, a reminder that demand for unconventional hardware can outpace even a well-resourced supply chain.

Context matters here. Samsung’s foldable business started with a single, expensive, somewhat fragile device: the original Galaxy Fold. For years afterward, the Galaxy Z lineup was exactly two phones a year, a Fold and a Flip, refined incrementally. The jump to a tri-fold device was itself a major departure from that two-model pattern, and the leak now claims Samsung is ready to go further still, adding a second tri-fold generation, a third Fold tier, and an entirely new rollable category in the same calendar year.

Whether or not every name in the leak survives to an actual product launch, the trajectory described, from one foldable in 2019 to six rumored devices for 2027, says something about how far the category has matured, and how much more comfortable Samsung has become building hardware around flexible and rollable glass rather than treating it as a one-off experiment.

A six-model foldable lineup, if it materializes, would put real strain on Samsung’s supply chain and pricing structure. Flexible OLED panels, custom hinge assemblies, and ultra-thin glass covers are already among the costliest components in any Samsung device, and that is before accounting for a memory market that is already under pressure from the broader chip shortage affecting Samsung and its rivals through 2026. Tripling the number of Fold-tier devices alone would multiply panel and hinge sourcing requirements across three distinct SKUs instead of one.

There is also a pricing question. Samsung’s existing foldables already sit at a premium over its non-folding flagships, and the broader smartphone market has been dealing with its own supply pressures in 2026. Adding an Ultra tier above the existing Fold and a Pro tier below it would let Samsung spread that premium across a wider price ladder, potentially making an entry-level Fold 9 more accessible while reserving the priciest materials and specs for the Ultra model, a pattern Samsung already uses successfully with its non-folding Galaxy S series.

Based on the leak, the market data, and Samsung’s own product history, here are five predictions worth watching as 2027 approaches.

Has Samsung confirmed six Galaxy Z foldables for 2027? No. Samsung has not confirmed any of the six model names, specifications, or a 2027 launch timeline. The information comes from a leak attributed to tipster Anthony (@TheGalox_), picked up by outlets including PhoneArena, SammyFans, and NokiaPowerUser.

What are the six rumored Galaxy Z models? The leak lists the Galaxy Z Slide, Galaxy Z TriFold 2, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 9 Pro, Galaxy Z Fold 9, and Galaxy Z Flip 9.

What is the Galaxy Z Slide? It is described in the leak as a rollable phone with an expanding display, rather than a traditional hinged foldable. No design, size, or release date has been confirmed.

Which rumored model is expected to launch first? The leak claims the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 is scheduled to launch before the rest of the 2027 lineup, though Samsung has not confirmed any release order.

Why would Samsung split the Fold line into three tiers? No official reason has been given. Market data shows Samsung holding about 18% of book-style foldable shipments versus roughly 57% for Chinese manufacturers combined in the first half of 2026, which may be a factor behind a broader, more segmented lineup.

How big is the foldable phone market right now? Book-style foldables shipped about 5.1 million units globally in the first half of 2026. Full-year 2026 foldable shipments across all form factors have been forecast at more than 22 million units, with projections exceeding 45 million units annually by 2030.

Do research firms agree on foldable growth forecasts? Not exactly. IDC, Counterpoint Research, and Omdia have each published different shipment forecasts for 2027 and 2028, ranging from roughly 27 million to over 100 million units depending on the report and time frame, though all point to continued year-over-year growth.

When will Samsung likely confirm or deny this leak? Samsung has historically confirmed new Galaxy Z hardware at its Unpacked events rather than responding directly to leaks. Given the 2027 timeline in the leak, confirmation would most plausibly arrive at Unpacked events held sometime in 2027.
