The Exynos 2600 is anticipated to be the first 2nm chip for smartphones. Initial benchmark results suggest it may rival the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, potentially putting them on equal footing.
Samsung typically unveils a flagship Exynos chip just before its use in a phone. Earlier this year, the Exynos 2500 appeared before the Galaxy Z Flip 7 release, which then featured the chip. It's highly likely the Galaxy S26 series will include the Exynos 2600 in some markets.
The Galaxy S25 series used Snapdragon chips across all models and regions. However, a return to the dual-chip approach is expected. The Galaxy S26 and S26 Plus may use the Exynos 2600 in Europe and other markets, while US models like the Galaxy S26 Ultra could use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
This depends on Samsung's strategy. If the Exynos 2600 shows substantial improvements, Samsung might use it in the US as well. Historically, Snapdragon has been more powerful, while Exynos has been more efficient. It remains to be seen how this new generation will perform.
Early benchmarks indicate a significant improvement. The Exynos 2600 reportedly scores higher than the 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and performs similarly to Apple’s M5 chip. If accurate, Galaxy S26 models with the Exynos 2600 could see their largest performance gains in years.
The unveiling of this chip indicates an upcoming launch, possibly before the end of the month. The Galaxy S26 series may debut in January or February, and Samsung usually launches its flagship chipset about a month prior to the phones. The official unveiling of the Exynos 2600 should clarify the Galaxy S26 release timeframe.
It remains to be seen if Samsung can close the gap.
Qualcomm has generally outperformed Samsung's chips. Despite hopes for change each year, history often repeats itself. While Samsung is promoting the Exynos 2600 as a major upgrade, skepticism remains about its ability to surpass its competitor.
Ultimately, real-world performance matters. Once the Galaxy S26 series is available, the Exynos 2600 can be tested, revealing whether Samsung has truly made a comeback. For now, there is a mix of curiosity, optimism, and caution.
