Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are selling better than expected in the US.

Samsung's latest and greatest foldables are not only massively outselling their predecessors stateside, also beating the most optimistic expectations of their manufacturers.
A recent post from Samsung's US Newsroom regarding its seventh-generation foldable devices contains interesting information. It was previously thought that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 had stronger sales than the Z Flip 7.
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is now reportedly "garnering the most interest" in the US among the two models released in July 2025. It is also supposedly breaking conversion records for the Z Flip series.
Samsung has not released specific regional or global sales figures for either the Z Flip 7 or the Z Fold 7. However, the company has stated that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 remains about 50 percent more popular than the Z Fold 6 from the previous year.
This figure is similar to what was reported at the close of the Z Fold 7's pre-order period in late July. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has also seen nearly 30 percent of its buyers upgrade from non-foldable Galaxy S Ultra phones. It is unclear what this could indicate for the sales performance of the future Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Samsung is touting the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7's success as progress toward "broadening the appeal of foldables". However, these models are not expected to outsell the Galaxy S25 series worldwide.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 only reached an estimated 5 million global shipments by the end of 2024. Even with a hypothetical 50 percent increase applying to both the Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 through the end of the year, the combined total would still be no more than 8 million units.
It is believed that the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, S25 Ultra, and S25 Edge exceeded 20 million combined sales between February and June.
The question of how foldables will perform in the future remains unanswered. While Samsung's foldable devices are experiencing renewed growth, it is unlikely that Apple will immediately dominate the market with its first foldable phone.
The first-generation iPhone Fold may not surpass the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in build quality, but competition could benefit consumers and potentially help foldable phones reach their full potential.
A book titled "Iconic Phones: Revolution at Your Fingertips" is set to be released soon, covering the stories of over 20 popular phones.
