Some T-Mobile users are considering VPNs after criticism of their online activity, though the carrier claims no responsibility.

Someone has taken it upon themselves to reprimand T-Mobile users for questionable online behavior.
Purportedly from T-Mobile's Legal and Emergency Response Team, the letters stated that the company's systems flagged potentially unlawful online behavior from the recipient's account, specifically, visiting websites related to hacking or containing inappropriate content.
Recipients were told this violated T-Mobile's Terms of Service. Although no penalty would be applied, "T-Mobile" would block the identified websites for all users, and the recipient would be subject to increased monitoring.
The letters warned that illegal actions could lead to account termination or legal consequences. They featured a T-Mobile address.
Understandably, customers were alarmed, and some wondered whether it was connected to T-Mobile's tracking of interactions with suspicious URLs, leading some to consider using VPNs.
The Mobile Report contacted T-Mobile, who denied sending the letters or monitoring/censoring online activities. T-Mobile stated that it blocks access to known malicious websites to protect users, a common industry practice.
According to a T-Mobile spokesperson in October 2025, the letters are not legitimate and do not reflect company policy. The company is investigating the impersonation and assisting concerned customers.
The company is currently investigating the source of the letters.
The motive remains unclear, whether a simple prank or an attempt to manipulate users.
For now, customers should know that the letters did not originate from T-Mobile. Any suspicious communication should be approached cautiously, regardless of its appearance.
