Sony may stop including USB cables with its phones.

First, they took the charging bricks, and now manufacturers are coming after USB cables.
Apple has set a precedent that could lead to phones being sold without cables. The AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 3 were both released by Apple without a USB-C cable. It's possible that the iPhone 18 and Galaxy S26 will do the same.
Is this a significant change?
The inconsistency among USB-C cables is a concern. While they appear identical, some support rapid charging and data transfer, while others don't. Purchasing the appropriate cable becomes more complex than simply using the included one.
This issue aside, the change might not be as unpopular as when charging bricks were removed. Many people, including myself, already own numerous USB-C cables and don't require another. This likely applies to many others as well.
