T-Mobile customers should prepare for a new AutoPay rule.

T-Mobile is closing a loophole that still let customers use their credit cards for AutoPay discounts.
T-Mobile will implement a change to its autopay discount policy, according to The Mobile Report. As of October 24, customers who make early payments using an ineligible payment method will not receive the discount for that billing cycle.
This adjustment prevents customers from circumventing the system by using a credit card before the scheduled AutoPay payment to maintain their discount. While the previous method still required customers to provide their bank or debit card information to T-Mobile, it allowed them to earn credit card rewards.
T-Mobile is enforcing stricter rules. This workaround will no longer be effective. Other aspects of the policy remain unchanged; customers who overpay their bill will still receive the discount. Some customers have prepaid their bills for several months to avoid the change.
One Reddit user, AccidentalArchetype, commented in October 2025 that they prepaid for two months to delay the issue until 2026.
Others attempted to pay this month's bill early, with varied results, and some reported that the changes are already in effect.
Another Reddit user, lugo3, noted in October 2025 that the message "Ineligible for AutoPay discounts" appears when attempting to pay with a Visa credit card.
Other carriers have similar autopay rules.
AT&T and Verizon have similar policies. The new restrictions might indicate that a T-Mobile credit card is forthcoming, as carriers typically allow using their own credit cards for autopay.
T-Mobile also recently increased its late fee, making AutoPay even more important.
