T-Mobile has announced a plan to maintain connectivity for customers during disasters and severe weather.

The carrier has a plan to keep you connected in the case a storm takes you off the network.
T-Mobile is observing National Preparedness Month by reinforcing its commitment to maintaining connections for families, first responders, and communities during critical times. The company employs T-Satellite, which helps maintain service when traditional networks fail, and offers first responders a dedicated 5G network slice with enhanced connectivity.
The carrier has deployable trucks for use in areas affected by weather emergencies. SatCOLTS, mobile cell sites mounted on trucks, have their own power generators and extendable masts to broaden coverage. These units are essential to T-Mobile's efforts to sustain connectivity during disasters.
SatCOWs, satellite cell sites on towable trailers with independent power sources, are also utilized during dangerous weather. These more compact units can be easily transported to provide temporary talk, text, and data connectivity to both emergency personnel and the public. The carrier often opens its network to non-T-Mobile customers during disastrous weather events.
T-Mobile uses self-organizing networks (SON) in areas at risk of losing network connections due to severe weather. This system uses AI to make real-time network adjustments during storms and other events to keep people connected.
T-Mobile also provides on-site support, offering Wi-Fi access and generator-powered charging stations to those affected by connectivity loss. According to Nicole Hudnet, Industry Segment Adviser for T-Mobile for Business, connectivity facilitates emergency services, power restoration, and essential transactions.
The technology available today is much improved over past events. T-Mobile has systems in place to help its subscribers stay connected during serious weather situations. Other major U.S. carriers also have similar protocols in place for disaster response.
