T-Mobile is discontinuing a popular perk, potentially offering users a parting gift.

After a decade, the Un-Carrier is axing its popular phone leasing program, but there's a silver lining for current members.

T-Mobile's JUMP! On Demand (JOD) program, which allowed users to lease a new phone with no upfront cost and upgrade multiple times per year, will end on December 1st. The program was introduced during John Legere's tenure as a flexible option for tech enthusiasts.

The decision to discontinue the program comes as flagship phone prices have increased, making the economics of the program unsustainable. T-Mobile has verified the program's end date on its support site, as outlined in a leaked document.

Customers currently in the JOD program can upgrade to a new device one last time. Additionally, T-Mobile will waive the remaining lease balance on December 1st, allowing customers to keep their phones, saving them money.

With the end of JOD, the options for early phone upgrades are changing. While JOD was known for its flexibility, other carriers provide alternative methods for upgrading sooner.

AT&T's "Next Up Anytime" program allows users to upgrade after paying off 33% of the phone's cost for an additional $10 per month. Verizon requires customers to pay off 50% of the device before upgrading. These programs are less flexible than JOD.

The end of JUMP! On Demand is not unexpected, but the final offer of waiving the lease is a positive move by T-Mobile. Recent high down payments had already reduced the program's appeal. While standard upgrade cycles or programs like AT&T's Next Up may be more practical today, JOD offered a unique experience in the past.
